Traffic Collision

Thursday, The 29th
It felt a little weird, waking up today. A bad feeling dwelled somewhere in my chest. I knew something bad was going to happen. Especially when I nearly knocked over the computer while trying to pick up my KH project.

When I went down to the breakfast table, my mum asked me: "Are you sure you want to go to school today? It's still Chinese New Year." I just said: "I dunno, ask Jamin." Jamin was all for going to school, for a list of reasons that I can't be bothered to remember. The one fatal decision made by Jamin. Sigh.

We came to the junction in front of Sierramas. There were cars going this way and that, some on their way to school, some to work. The lights were red when we reached the junction. We stopped right at the lights. Several moments later, the lights turned green. I'm absolutely sure it was green, because all the other cars started moving too.

(See diagrams)

The diagram above shows the direction of movement that each vehicle wants to follow. The yellow sports car represents my car, and the stretched picture of a grey car represents the lorry.

When the lights turned green, my mum drove the car forward. I saw- as if in slow motion- the lorry also moving forward. It was too early in the morning for me to react. I guess I expected the lorry or my mum to stop, but neither seemed to notice.

By the time everyone reacted, it was inevitable. We panicked. I was yelling, mom was screaming, and my sister went: "Huh?" We collided hard and, whoa. Sitting in the front passenger's seat, I felt a strong pressure on my body, strong enough to turn rough stones into diamonds. Now it seems that I imagined the pressure, because I was not hurt, nor was the car in any position to crush me.

The inertia of the lorry continued to push us along, it seemed like the lorry driver was still stepping on the gas. When it stopped, I was in shock. We all were. We just sat there in silence for about 20 seconds. I looked around. No one was hurt.

Finally, my mom said: "Hold on, I have to move the car out of the way first." Then, she turned on the engine(I now realize how insanely dangerous that was, because the engine might have been damaged and could explode if turned on) and drove to the side of the road.

We made it to the side of the road, huge chunks of the car falling of the front as we did. The lorry was also stopped by the side of the road. The door opened, and a toothless old Chinese man came out, cursing and shouting. I took one look at him, and hated him.

He looked something like this, only super angry and with glasses. We couldn't hear what he was shouting about, being inside the car. He gestured angrily at the traffic lights, it seems he thinks that we went on a red light.

My mum took a deep breath and went outside to argue. While she was negotiating, I called my dad, who was just leaving for Singapore on business.

"Dad? We got hit by a lorry."

When she came back to the car, my mum called my brother to fetch us back to the house.

After retrieving some documents from the house, mum took my brother's car out to the police station to file a report, and settle the payment and insurance stuff.

I don't know how long it took for my heart to calm down. The collision was just... Heart attack-y. Now I've got junctionaphobia.

It wasn't an accident, it was a traffic collision. As according to Hot Fuzz:

Passer-by, upon seeing two decapacitated people on the road: "What happened, Danny?"

Danny: "Traffic collision." *turns to Nicholas* "Eh, why can't we say 'accident' again?"

Nicholas: "Because 'accident' implies that there's nobody to blame."

In this case, the lorry driver was clearly trying to rush through the red lights.

I walked under a bus, I got hit by a train.
Like falling love, which is kind of the same.
