Tis' The Season To Be Jolly

Plenty of reason to be jolly. Firstly, I finished all my holiday homework!

"Apa erti panas salju tu, ayah?" "Ya, ayah. Nazli pun tak faham."

"Panas salju itu ertinya harapan yang tak kesampaian. Salju apabila terkena panas matahari akan cair dan kembali menjadi cecair. Tak tahan lama dan musnah..."

Dipetik daripada novel "Panas Salju",
oleh Talib Samat, halaman 235.

Hahaha. Alright. Apart from that, it was my dad's birthday yesterday!

Happy Birthday, Dad!

Don't know if he'll ever see that message. It is Justin's birthday today,

Happy Birthday, Justin!

Don't know if he'll see it either, I don't think he reads my blog. And it is also Christmas' Eve!

Merry Christmas, Everyone!

I'm having a party tonight. And its gonna be AWESOME. I can feel it in the air. I'll post the feedback later on.

Oh, almost forgot. I'm going to Bali on Friday!

WOOOOH!

Classic Cheese

It's a cake, as you should know. If not, at least familiarize yourself with Chocolate Indulgence, which is the cake that my family frequents. However, for this year's birthday party, we decided to go for something a little... Unorthodox. So we picked the Classic Cheese. (Yes I know the name clearly states Classic Cheese)

Anyway, I celebrated my birthday on Sunday. That's not the real date, by the way. My real birthday is tomorrow. The 17th.

Anyways, we went to this out-of-the-way-jungly-sort-of-place, where my mum was recommended to by her friends. We got there, and we were like. Whoa.

The restaurant was big, and seemingly open air. There were small gazebos with tables and chairs for private functions, and a large area with many tables and chairs for normal customers. The place looked like it had been closed down for quite a while. The stuff was still there, but the plants were growing all over.

There was a man there, however. My mum went to him and asked:

"Excuse me, is this place open?"

The man looked extremely affronted.

"Yes, of course it is, ma'am."

They spoke for a while then he brought us into a decidedly more well-kept room, which was air-conditioned. There was a long table in the room, which looked like it was reserved just for us.

The rest of the relatives started arriving. The usual group. The Chan's, the Tan's, the Loong's, and the Choong's, plus one. The plus being the Loong's new nine year old sister, supposedly born on Saturday night. Go figure.

Anyways, while my mum was busy sorting out the food with the talkative waiter who took us in, we took a look around the place. We found the toilets, and didn't know which one to go to.

Do we belong here?

Or here?

Back at the restaurant, we enjoyed their hearty servings of muruku whilst the waiters prepared our happy meals.

And then, Yee Juinn presented the brilliant gift of a Balisong(Otherwise known as butterfly knife) from Joo Lee, Yee Hou and himself. Said to be illegal in Malaysia, our family doesn't care.

Beautiful.

Finally, lunch is served.

Mmm. Tastes like chicken. Probably because it is chicken.

After the chicken, the clams came disguised like a duck. Some call it "The Trojan Duck". The duck was actually on fire when they first served it, but by the time we got the camera out, the flames were gone.

So here we are, enjoying the meal.

Another shot from the other end of the table.

Here's the newborn baby, Vivian.

After the meal, came the cake. The Classic Cheese.

And with the cake, came the impossible challenge.

Jun Ian grabs two slices of the cake, a smacks them onto a plate. He squashes them to the center of the plate, and stabs a candle into the middle.

"Here are the rules: Put your hands behind your back. You grab the candle off the plate with your mouth. If you are not fast enough, we will push your face into the cake. If you are fast enough, you may escape."

"Well, not much of a chance," I was thinking. "But.. Hey, what the heck, let's go do something stupid."

Here's the video.

The cake went up my nose. Nose cake, you know. Literally cake. Not just the usual brownies.

Last picture: Balisong Extremists.

"Hey, let's do lala poses with our balisongs."

Whose brilliant idea was that?

Yet Another One

I have nothing to do during the holidays. Don't blame me.

Guerilla Warfare. Or not.

Ambigram

I spent one helluvan afternoon creating this piece. I actually finished it in the first half of the afternoon, but then Photoshop encountered an error and closed down before I could save it, so...
Yeah, I had to spend another half of the afternoon.
Look, Alistair! I finished it. And you went offline just when I clicked to show it to you. How sad.

In case some of you don't understand what an "ambigram" is, its a word that can be read upside down. Like the Angels and Demons drawn by Mr. Langdon for use in the book Da Vinci Code.

Do not hesitate to turn your heads upside down while looking. Just don't turn the whole laptop and end up screwing up your mouse, like Alistair did when I showed him this.

This one is just... Awesome. Dr. Jekyl and Mr. Hyde, which you should know without my telling you . I didn't make this, obviously, I just wanted to give some credit to the person who made this, because this is the whole reason I started doing the montage.

(Brilliant Title)

The word "cool" could mean many things. It could mean the act of making something less hot, a certain temperature, a level of social refinement, an appearance, an attitude, and it could also be used in a figure of speech.

In action form, here is the word "cool" used in a sentence:

"Jun Shern puts a cube of ice into his Milo to cool it down."

In temperature form, here is the word "cool" used in a sentence:

"Jun Shern's Milo contains ice cubes, therefore it is cool."

In social terms, here is the word "cool" used in a sentence:

"Jun Shern pours three mugs of Milo to serve to his cool, new friends."

In appearance terms, here is the word "cool" used in a sentence:

"Jun Shern looks very cool in that new leather jacket."

In attitude form, here is the word "cool" used in a sentence:

"Jun Shern winked coolly at the waitress serving him Milo."

In the figure of speech, here is the word "cool" used in a sentence:

"Jun Shern was very angry, so his friends told him to cool his head."

Now, if we were to use all these forms of the word "cool" in a short story, this would be what it looked like:

"Jun Shern winked coolly at the waitress serving him and his cool friends Milo, then moved to put an ice cube inside the Milo to cool it down to a cooler state of temperature. However, he instead knocked the mug of Milo off the table, and it spilled onto his new leather jacket, making him look less cool than ever. This made him very angry and he started cursing, so his friends told him to go and cool his head."

Now that's pretty cool, how the word cool COOLD be used in so many ways. HAHAHAHA.

Anyways, on the topic of cool, i found a cool poem a few days ago. Here's how it goes:

I often wondered when I cursed,
Often feared where I would be -
Wondered where she'd yield her love
When I yield, so will she.
I would her will be pitied!
Cursed be love! She pitied me...

There's no hidden literary meaning within the lines, or do you have to be extremely smart to see what's special about it. I'll be explaining after the next few "enter" keys.

Alrighty. Enough space. Its pretty obvious, really. If you haven't figured it out, go and look at it again.

Here's the thing:
I often wondered when I cursed,
Often feared where I would be -
Wondered where she'd yield her love
When I yield, so will she.
I would her will be pitied!
Cursed be love! She pitied me...

Look at the first word of every sentence. Then second word of every sentence. Then third word of every sentence. See it? Haha! That's pretty cool. The poem was written by Lewis Carroll, who also wrote Alice in Wonderland. If you don't know that book, I give up. Enough talk.

Coolness.

I was just looking around for some clips of the movie Drumline, which is about a super talented black guy who plays drums in a marching band, when I suddenly remembered August Rush. Its not a new movie, I myself watched it many months ago.

It's not important that you read this, I'm just elaborating for people who might be interested in the movie. The important stuff is the videos further down the post. This is the rough plot of August Rush.

Here's how it goes.

It starts with two amazing musicians, Lyla and Louis. Lyla is some famous cellist, and Louis is the singer/guitarist of a popular rock band. They meet at a party, and (predictably) spend the night together. Lyla gets pregnant, and due to unforeseen circumstances, they are separated and unable to find each other.

Lyla's dad does not want her to have to handle the burden of bearing a child all by herself, so when she passes out giving birth (or something like that), he takes the child away and sends it to the orphanage, telling her that it died.

The child grows up, and at around 11 years old, runs away from the orphanage to find his parents. The child's name is Evan. Anyway, he finds himself in a situation somewhat similiar to that of Oliver Twist.

He joins a band of kids who are taken care of by a man named Wizard. The kids perform music on the streets and the money they make is given to Wizard for taking care of them. Eventually, Evan is realised to be an amazing music prodigy.

Here is the clip from the movie, which according to the movie, is the first time he has ever touched a musical instrument. B-U-L-L-S-H-I-T.

Afterwards, he runs into his father, Louis, at a park, and they play a guitar duet, each not knowing the identity of the other. This is the clip of that.

I'm not going to continue the movie plot, I'm too lazy, and some parts of it I can't clearly remember. If you want to read more, here's the plot.

The person who plays as Evan's hands in the movie is Kaki King. She's(yes, she) also the composer of the guitar parts in the movie. After doing some research, I found that she composed a song with the unorthodox name "Gay Sons of Lesbian Mothers".

I also found another cool guitar slap video. His stuff is... Just watch it.

I've tried guitar slapping, and it is not half as easy as Evan makes it look in the first clip.

Lets just go full steam ahead and bombard this place with a video post of every interesting video clip I find. After all, it is the holidays, and what better way to spend the holidays other than by watching people more talented than us?

HAHAHAHAHAHA!

I thought there was nothing better than a gorilla playing drums. I thought wrong.

Now that's cool. Although very long.

THIS IS THE BEST! You could skip all others, but don't deny yourself the wonders of Tim Minchin. The starting isn't much, but wait for the part where he starts singing and playing the piano.

Harmonica and beatbox. Harmbox.

Okay, I'm done here.

These people have reached a level of prodigious talent that few of us will ever reach. Kudos to those who do.

Moonday, 1st of December, 2008

It was special. Quite amazing. Yesterday, Monday, the 1st of December. My sister got a message while watching me play Suikoden III(a little out of date, yeah), and said:

"I'm going out to look at the moon."

I didn't understand. Then after awhile, she came back screaming about a smiley face in the sky. I wasn't really interested, since my sister is easily excited over the most everyday things. But I decided to just have a glance.

I saw what she meant, and it sure was no everyday thing. It was cool, there actually is someone smiling down upon us from the heavens. What I saw was a cresent moon, curved in a smile, and two bright, shiny stars suspended above the moon to make eyes.

We tried taking pictures, but the stars weren't bright enough to be captured by camera. At least, not by the camera that we were using.

Today, my mum told us about the article about it in the newspaper. Its a short article, you can read it here. And there is a picture, too. The picture isn't in the link, but it was in the Chinese newspaper my grandmother subscribes to.

Monday, the Moon Day.

How magical.
